Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
An optical network terminal (ONT) is a device that helps bring fibre-optic internet into your home. The fibre-optic cable carries super-fast internet signals as light, and the ONT converts those light signals into regular internet signals that your router can use. It was installed by one of our friendly GoFibre team when your GoFibre broadband was installed.
Here’s how it works:
- Fibre-optic cable brings fast internet to your home.
- ONT changes the light signals into internet data.
- Your GoFibre router then takes that data and gives you Wi-Fi to use on your devices.
So, the ONT is what makes it possible for you to use your GoFibre Full Fibre broadband inside your home.
This is what your ONT will look like.

- Power – Green: Your ONT is turned on.
- Power – Off: Your ONT is not receiving power or is turned off. Make sure the plug socket is turned on at the wall and the power cable is inserted correctly into the router. Please never turn your ONT off as your GoFibre broadband will stop working. If this doesn’t work then please contact us to help you resolve this issue.
- PON – Green: Your ONT is connected to the internet.
- PON – Off: Your ONT is unable to establish a connection to the internet. Please contact us to help you resolve this issue.
- Alarm – Red: Your ONT is unable to establish a connection to the internet. Please contact us to help you resolve this issue.
- Alarm – Off: Your ONT is connected to the internet.
- Data – Green: Your ONT is connected to the internet.
- Data – Orange: Your ONT is connected to the internet.
- Data – Off: There is no internet connection between your ONT and GoFibre router. Please check that the cable from your ONT to GoFibre router is connected securely into the WAN port of the router. If this doesn’t work and the data light is still off, please contact us to help you resolve this issue.
