Enhanced Wi-Fi: Extended Wi-Fi coverage

Struggling with Wi-Fi dead zones? Enhanced Wi-Fi adds one (or more) extra router/s that team up with your main router to spread fast, reliable Wi-Fi to every corner of your home. Say goodbye to dead zones and hello to Wi-Fi that works, all the time, everywhere.

What is Enhanced Wi-Fi, and what does it include?

When you sign up for GoFibre full fibre, we send you a main router (for free!) with built-in mesh technology.

But if you’ve got rooms where Wi-Fi just won’t reach—whether it’s because of a big home, multiple floors, or thick walls blocking the signal—you might run into frustrating dead zones. That’s where Enhanced Wi-Fi comes in.

Enhanced Wi-Fi is an add-on you can add to your plan, giving you extra routers that work together with your main one to create a mesh network—delivering fast, reliable Wi-Fi to every corner of your home.

Just add the Enhanced Wi-Fi add-on to your plan when booking online or over the phone, and we’ll send you one extra router (or more if you need more) for £5/month.

These extra routers join forces with your main one to create a mesh network—a smarter, more reliable way to keep Wi-Fi running at full speed everywhere.

What is a mesh network?

A mesh network is a system where multiple routers work together to spread Wi-Fi evenly throughout your home. The main router (provided for free when you sign up for GoFibre) connects to your internet service, and additional routers (available with the Enhanced Wi-Fi add-on) connect to the main router and to each other, forming a 'mesh.' This system ensures a strong, reliable Wi-Fi signal in all areas, even those that previously had weak or no signal at all. It’s ideal for eliminating dead zones and ensuring ultra-reliable Wi-Fi performance. Wi-Fi extenders address the same issue, but mesh systems offer a more modern and efficient solution.

Do I need Enhanced Wi-Fi?

Enhanced Wi-Fi is perfect for anyone who struggles with weak or inconsistent Wi-Fi in certain areas of their home. Whether you have a large house, multiple floors, or rooms that block the signal, this add-on ensures you get a strong, reliable connection everywhere. If you want to eliminate dead zones and enjoy Wi-Fi that works seamlessly all over your home, Enhanced Wi-Fi is the solution you need!

Advanced router, or second router?

Enhanced Wi-Fi FAQs

How much does Enhanced Wi-Fi cost?

Plus icon.

With Enhanced Wi-Fi, you can add extra standard mesh routers to your plan for a monthly fee of £5 for one router. These routers remain part of your service subscription.

How many extra mesh routers do I need?

Plus icon.

It really depends on how much space you’ve got! If you're in a smaller home, one extra mesh router will probably do the trick. But if you've got a bigger space or multiple floors, you might want two to make sure every room gets the Wi-Fi love it deserves.

If you're unsure about how many extra routers you need or need a little help, give us a call at 0800 059 0980, Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, or Saturday, 9am to 5pm. We’ll be more than happy to assist you!

Do I need a main router with mesh capabilities to enjoy Enhanced Wi-Fi?

Plus icon.

Yes, with Enhanced Wi-Fi, you’ll receive an additional standard router with mesh capabilities. To create a mesh system, your main router must also have mesh capabilities, such as those in GoFibre routers, to connect to the extra router(s).

When you sign up with us, you’ll receive a free main router that already has mesh capabilities, so you don’t need to worry about compatibility. This main router will work perfectly with the extra routers included in Enhanced Wi-Fi.

Where to put the extra mesh router/s?

Plus icon.

To get the most out of your extra mesh router(s), place them in spots where the Wi-Fi tends to drop or get weak—like upstairs, in the basement, or across the house from your main router. Aim to position the extra router about halfway between your main one and the dead zone, but keep the distance no more than 9 meters (30 feet), or roughly two rooms apart.

If you’re using more than one, stick to this rule for each one. Make sure the extra router is close to a power outlet, out in the open, and off the floor—maybe on a bookcase or a tabletop. For homes with multiple floors, try to keep the distance between your upstairs and downstairs routers to around 9 meters.

What are the capabilities of the additional router I’ll receive with Enhanced Wi-Fi?

Plus icon.

The GoFibre Standard Router is designed to deliver fast, reliable internet across your entire home. With Wi-Fi 6, it offers improved speeds, better efficiency, and the ability to handle multiple devices at once without interruptions.

This router features dual-band technology, providing both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for a more efficient network. Devices that require faster speeds can connect to the 5 GHz band, while other devices can operate on the 2.4 GHz band, reducing congestion and optimising performance. Thanks to MU-MIMO technology, the router can manage multiple devices simultaneously without slowing down, so everyone in your household can stay connected without issue.

Its smart signal technology directs Wi-Fi where it’s needed most, ensuring strong, consistent coverage throughout your home, even in rooms far from the router or through thick walls. Additionally, you can connect it to other routers to build a mesh network and eliminate any dead spots.

For more information, visit the Standard Router page to see how it can elevate your home’s internet experience.

Do mesh routers work through walls?

Plus icon.

Yes, mesh routers can work through walls, but their performance depends on the materials and thickness of the walls. Mesh systems are designed to create a strong, reliable Wi-Fi signal across your home, and they communicate between nodes (routers) to ensure good coverage. However, walls, especially thick ones or those made of dense materials like brick or concrete, can weaken the signal. The more open the space between the mesh nodes, the better the performance. Ideally, placing the extra routers in open areas or near doorways will help improve coverage, but even with walls, mesh systems still outperform traditional routers and extenders.
