Gofibre Announces Sponsorship Of New Borders Girls’ Rugby Club
Scottish independent broadband provider, GoFibre, has today announced its sponsorship of a brand-new grassroots rugby team for girls living in the Borders and North Northumberland.
In addition to its ongoing sponsorship of the Melrose Sevens and North Berwick Rugby Club, GoFibre has expanded its commitment to grassroots rugby in Scotland, and girls sport in particular, by becoming the lead sponsor of the newly-formed Borders Girls’ Rugby team. With the sponsorship officially announced today, GoFibre will support the rugby team as its main kit sponsor and will also back upcoming events, matches and community initiatives.
The Borders Girls’ Rugby team is a brand-new team connecting girls in the Under 16 and Under 18 age grades who already play for Gala RFC, Kelso RFC, and Berwick RFC. Girls from other clubs in the area are actively welcomed. There are currently not enough girls playing at each individual club to form competition teams at each club, and so the plan was formed for a Borders team, to ensure girls who wanted to play at a higher level could do so in the Borders, without having to go to other regions or drop out altogether. The sides will compete in the Scottish East Region Leagues, and the team has secured an SRU-funded head coach.
Neil Conaghan, Chief Executive Officer at GoFibre, said: “Rugby’s popularity amongst girls and women is growing at an incredible rate, but we know access to it isn’t always easy. GoFibre is excited to get behind this new team which will give girls a chance to compete at a higher level in a sport that they love, in their home area, and we are proud to be able to help build a sustainable place within our founding community through our sponsorship.
“By combining the rollout of cutting-edge full fibre broadband connectivity with support for local communities through sports like rugby, we can advance the growth and capabilities of local clubs, homes, and businesses. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the club thrive as the season gets underway.”
