Hawick Hits 1,000 Customers
GoFibre has passed a major milestone in Hawick, with 1,000 customers now signed up to our ultrafast full fibre broadband.
With 6,000 premises ready for connection in the Borders town, local residents are able to enjoy the benefits of full fibre such as seamless use of multiple devices at home, smoother remote work and being able to quickly download large files in seconds.
Founded in nearby Duns in 2017, the independent broadband provider now has over 22,000 premises ready for connection across the Scottish Borders in places like Galashiels, Kelso, Melrose, Selkirk, Hawick, Jedburgh, and Duns.
Throughout the build process in Hawick, GoFibre has committed to supporting local communities and grassroots sports, sponsoring important events like Melrose 7s as well as the newly formed Borders Girls’ Rugby club. As a result of their efforts, the broadband provider was Highly Commended at the Borders Business Excellence Awards 2024 and is represented on the Board of the Borders Chamber of Commerce.
Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre said: “To reach this milestone in our heartland of the Borders is fantastic, with Hawick locals now able to enjoy the benefits of our seamless high speed connection.
“We remain committed to adding value to every community that we serve, and we would like to thank all of our customers their continued support.”
In July 2023, GoFibre launched the GoFurther Fund with the goal of supporting charities, community groups and other organisations within key build communities, including Hawick-based charity, Escape Youth Services.
Founded in 2005, the charity serves as a safe haven for children in Primary 6 and older, offering a vital youth facility to around 150 children living in and around Hawick, with the mission of improving social inclusion, isolation and anxiety.
Through the GoFurther Fund, GoFibre was able to provide £3,000 of support towards its crucial work, ensuring that children throughout the region can continue to experience the benefits offered by this charity.
In addition to supporting community groups, GoFibre is deeply committed to supporting local economic growth and addressing the unique needs of each community it serves. A key aspect of this approach is the recruitment of local talent; notably, approximately one-fifth of the company's workforce lives in the Scottish Borders. GoFibre also supports local businesses, with Hawick-based supplier Emtelle being one of the company’s major partners.
