Blog: 2022 End of Year Round-up

The Scoop | 22/12/2022

We’ve had a huge year in 2022 – from connecting houses and business in rural towns and villages across Scotland, to winning two UK Government contracts through the Project Gigabit initiative covering the north of England.

At the heart of everything we have done this year, our core aim has been to connect rural homes and businesses to the digital connectivity they deserve, helping close the digital divide. In 2022, here are some of the steps we’ve taken toward our mission:

  • 12 local towns can now get access to our ultra-fast network
  • Two contracts with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the UK Government’s Project Gigabit
  • 86 jobs created
  • We strengthened our leadership team with the appointment of our new CEO and COO, Neil and Andy
  • And, we engaged with many people and business leaders at various consumer and business events, including the Royal Highland Show, Digit Expo and the Border Union Agricultural Show.

Significant investment from Gresham House has enabled us to have our biggest growth year yet since the start of our journey back in 2017. This has meant our footprint has expanded across the Borders, Fife, East Lothian and Aberdeenshire. In the north of England, our success in winning two multi-million-pound contracts to serve Teesdale and North Northumberland under the UK government’s Project Gigabit, will allow us to being work to bring full fibre connectivity to more than 7,000 of homes and premises from 2023. This opens up opportunities for economic growth, education and employment.

With our construction efforts underway, we are doing everything we can to equip residents and businesses across Scotland and the north of England’s towns and villages with the world class connectivity they need to drive this success and innovation, both now and in the future.

To play our part in supporting local communities and sport, we recently announced a new, three-year sponsorship of the Melrose Sevens tournament. Together with Melrose, our sponsorship will create a brand-new grassroots tournament, offering local clubs the chance to take part in the competition for the first time. From a legacy point of view, we’ll also be connecting Melrose with the power of full fibre technology, enhancing the overall work and visitor experience there for decades to come.

At GoFibre, everything we do is guided by our mission to support the development and prosperity of local communities with high-quality broadband services. We achieve all of this by having an incredible, dedicated team, staying true to our core purpose, making connections and working with other organisations on the common purpose of closing the digital divide.

We are very excited as our journey continues into 2023 – there’s a lot more to come!
