Blog: Looking ahead to 2023

The Scoop | 10/01/2023

It’s a new year but not a new GoFibre – in 2023 we are continuing our mission to tackle the rural digital divide and provide lightning-fast broadband to hard-to-reach homes and businesses across Scotland and Northern England.

So, how are we going to do that? We’re starting the year as we mean to go on. We’re going to be bringing gigabit-capable connections to premises in North Northumberland and Teesdale in the Spring, in partnership with Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) under the UK Government’s Project Gigabit initiative. By bringing leading connectivity to these areas, these builds will open up opportunities for economic growth, education and employment in the local communities.

We are expecting to introduce our full fibre broadband to even more areas, connecting communities to future-proof networks. For our existing customers, we’ll continue to do everything we can to equip their homes and businesses with the tools they need to drive success and innovation, both now and in the future.

Connectivity is a vital part of the foundations for business growth. By installing modern technology in these areas, we can give rural locations the ability to compete with larger cities. With reliable broadband, businesses have the opportunity to create more efficient working environments, provide faster operations, serve bigger markets and recruit from wider talent pools through working-from-home capability.

Last, but not least, we’re thrilled to be sponsoring the iconic Melrose Sevens rugby tournament in 2023, as an official platinum communications partner. Our partnership will see us launch a new tournament, providing a new opportunity for grassroots clubs to play at the tournament. 16 grassroots clubs from the Scottish Borders and North of England will compete to earn the right to play in the final in front of a packed crowd. We’ll also be backing the winners with a £1,000 prize to support the sustainability of rugby in the region.

Full fibre networks are considered to be the best type of connectivity, allowing communities to upload and download data with none of the disruption that ageing copper networks bring. However, it is only currently available to around 37% of UK premises so our mission is just getting started.

With our skilled and dedicated team, we will continue to support communities with world-class connectivity in 2023.
