Over 2,000 More Premises to Get Full-Fibre Broadband Across North East Scotland
Over 2,000 more homes and businesses in rural towns and villages in Aberdeenshire, Angus and Perth and Kinross are set to enjoy the same world-class, lightning-fast full-fibre broadband connectivity as Scotland’s cities.
By the end of September, hundreds more premises will be ready to connect to Scottish independent broadband builder and provider GoFibre’s network in Auchenblae, St Cyrus, Johnshaven, Westhill and Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire; Letham and Montrose in Angus; and the Longforgan area in Perth and Kinross.
Homes and businesses in these areas will be able to enjoy fast, reliable connectivity with speeds of up to 1Gbps available on GoFibre’s network. This enables smoother service delivery for businesses, seamless home working, video calls without freezing, and rapid downloads.
GoFibre’s North East Scotland build is being delivered in seven local authority areas – Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Angus, Perth and Kinross and Dundee – with thousands of premises in these locations being added to its network.
The broadband build is being delivered as part of a major government contract to improve connectivity in underserved areas. In 2025, GoFibre was chosen as the supplier to deliver full-fibre broadband to around 63,000 hard-to-reach premises across North East Scotland as part of joint efforts by the UK and Scottish Governments to supercharge internet access in mainly rural areas.
GoFibre is adding additional to the build on a commercial basis, meaning at least 100,000 premises across the North East will be added to its full-fibre network.
Project Gigabit is the UK Government’s programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast, gigabit-capable broadband.
The Scottish Government is playing a key role in delivering Project Gigabit in Scotland by managing the delivery of the contracts.
As well as improving digital connectivity in rural and underserved areas in North East Scotland, GoFibre has also supported local charities, sports clubs and community events to create lasting impact. It has carried out this work through its social impact strategy which aims to make a positive, long-term difference for its customers and their communities. Recent initiatives include providing new competition jackets for Longforgan Bowling Club’s players and financial support for the St Cyrus 10K race and the Stonehaven Feein’ Market.
Andy Hepburn, Chief Operating Officer at GoFibre, said:
“GoFibre is really picking up the pace with our rollout of full fibre broadband in Aberdeenshire Angus and Perthshire, with over 2,000 additional premises now ready-to-connect. These areas can now enjoy the same lightning-fast full fibre as Scotland’s cities on our gigabit capable network.
“We’re looking forward to connecting many more residents in the northeast in 2026 and beyond with all the benefits for local economies that will bring. Alongside this rollout we’re committed to leaving a lasting effect in communities through our packed programme of social impact activities, investing in local charities, sports and social groups.”
