Borders-born independent broadband builder and provider GoFibre has announced an important investment in grassroots rugby, continuing its support of the thriving Melrose Rugby Youth section by signing a three-year deal, launching with the GoFibre Wasps Sevens in April.

After sponsoring the Melrose Sevens for the last three years, GoFibre has extended its commitment to the club, coming on board as the main sponsor of youth rugby at Melrose Rugby Club.

The independent broadband provider will feature as a jersey sponsor and headline sponsor of the Melrose Wasps Sevens and Hornets tournaments.

The tournament is for under-13s to under-18s teams from across the Scottish Borders. It takes place on 17 and 18 April at the iconic sportsground The Greenyards and showcases future generations of rugby talent.

The sponsorship announcement comes after GoFibre recently began the next stage of its network rollout in the Scottish Borders. Its lightning-fast full fibre broadband, capable of gigabit speeds, is now available to over 5,000 additional homes and businesses in areas around Eyemouth, Innerleithen, Chirnside, Lauder, Oxton, Walkerburn, Galashiels and more.

In total, the rollout will connect around 20,000 premises across the Borders and East Lothian to reliable, future‑proof connectivity.

Scotland’s fastest-growing broadband provider has invested in the Wasps Sevens Tournament as part of its social impact strategy which aims to make a positive, long-term difference to its customers and their communities.

Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre, said:

“Supporting grassroots sport is absolutely essential and reflects GoFibre’s desire to leave a lasting impact in communities, helping them to thrive and grow. As a Borders-born company, we’re incredibly proud to continue our support of the Melrose Sevens by sponsoring its youth tournament. Clubs like Melrose give  youngsters the opportunity to have fun and learn essential skills for right now, and develop into the stars of the future.

“We’re excited to continue partnering with Melrose Rugby and are looking forward to a thrilling tournament.”

Douglas Crawford, General Manager of Melrose Rugby, said:

“Melrose Rugby is delighted that GoFibre have signed to become our main Youth Rugby sponsor for the next three seasons. GoFibre have been a great supporter of the Melrose Sevens across the last three years and the transition to focus on our Youth Rugby felt like the perfect match. I’m excited to see the partnership grow and for the mint-green of GoFibre to take over some of our popular Youth Rugby events throughout the season! Starting with our Wasps Sevens, which sees the best youth players from the Borders compete head-to-head at the Home of Sevens.”

Representatives from GoFibre will be attending the Wasps Sevens Tournament on 17 April as well as the Melrose Sevens Tournament on Saturday 23 May. Attendees can expect free GoFibre merchandise and competitions with fantastic prizes.

GoFibre has made a substantial commitment to grassroots sport in the Borders. As well as embarking on its fourth year of sponsorship of Melrose Rugby Club, the company also works with clubs like Borders Girls Rugby Club, Chirnside Juniors FC and Innerleithen Girls FC.
